Golden Light and Crisp Air in the North Georgia Mountains of Ellijay Ga

There is something unmistakably magical about the Blue Ridge Mountains in the fall. The light softens, the air turns crisp, and the first hints of color begin to touch the trees. It’s a fleeting season, but one that brings such beauty to the North Georgia landscape. This mid-October session in Ellijay, Georgia, was the perfect reminder of why I love shooting in these hills.

Just a short drive from Cherry Log and Chatsworth, this quiet mountain spot offered a blend of open views and woodsy trails. The trees were just starting to shift into their autumn tones, and a cool breeze moved through the air—one of those days where everything feels still, yet full of life.

While this particular session was a maternity shoot with Amy and Shane, what struck me most was how the location framed their story so naturally. The soft glow through the trees, the textures of the landscape, the wide open skies…it all came together to create an atmosphere that was both peaceful and full of quiet emotion.

This spot is one I’ll return to again and again. Whether it’s for couples, portraits, or creative sessions, the Blue Ridge Mountains never disappoint. The mix of wooded paths and distant ridgelines makes this corner of North Georgia an absolute dream to photograph in, especially when fall starts to peek through.
